Post Production

Editing sound:

When listening back to the sound we had recorded on shooting day we could only hear fuzz and loud buzzing, we later establised it was due to a faulty cable. Therefore we had to re-think what we were going to do for sound. We decided not to use any dialogue, just have sound effects. We placed in sound effects of doors, poker chips, clearing of throats and glasses. We felt this worked well, because the dialogue would have distracted from the storyline and ruined the build of tension, whereas the sound effects added huge tension. We still felt that after these sound effects it needed something else, this is when we added in underlying 'room tone'. This added more of an atmosphere and enhanced the tension. It also made it more realistic as every room has an underlying 'room tone', if we didn't have it, it would seem very dead. We used soundtrack pro to choose these sounds, all we had to do is import the sound from soundtrack pro and into final cut pro timeline. We also had to render the sound, which converts it and makes it useable on the final cut pro.

Editing shots:

We decided that to make sure the storyline very clear we would have to edit in an very accurate way. To increase tension aswell we sharply cut the shots of the poker players faces, eyes and hands to the poker game and the chips. We then had shots of the hit man walking down the corridor in intervals between the shots. To build importance and tension to who the guy is walking down the corridor, we made the shots of him speed up and then put all the poker shots slightly in slow motion and some in big slow motion, this contrasted it and made the question who is that man? more important. The contrast was enhanced even more because of the colour differance between the shots of the poker scene and the shots of the hitman walking along the corridor, which adds more suspence because of the confusion to where he is. The way we have edited it we think builds up the tension and suspence to the climax at the end.
